About This Page

This diagnostic tool tests Chrome's Built-in AI APIs powered by Gemini Nano. It generates jokes to verify the Prompt API is working correctly.

This page follows best practices for model download progress monitoring and user activation checks as outlined in the Chrome for Developers documentation.

Prerequisites
  • Browser: Chrome 138+
  • OS: Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, Linux, or ChromeOS Plus
  • Storage: 22GB+ free space
  • GPU: 4GB+ VRAM
  • CPU: 16GB+ RAM, 4+ cores
  • Network: Unmetered connection
Model Download States

The API can be in one of these states:

  • unavailable: API cannot be used on this device
  • downloadable: Model needs to be downloaded (requires user activation)
  • downloading: Model is currently downloading
  • available: Model is ready to use

This page properly handles all states and shows download progress when needed.

How to Enable
  1. Open Chrome and navigate to chrome://flags
  2. Search for and enable each flag listed below
  3. Set each flag to Enabled
  4. Click Relaunch to restart Chrome
  5. Return to this page and test

Important: You must restart Chrome after enabling flags. Close all Chrome windows and reopen.
Troubleshooting

If the API is unavailable:

  • Verify Chrome version (138+)
  • Check all flags are enabled
  • Ensure Chrome was restarted
  • Visit chrome://on-device-internals for details
  • Check hardware requirements
  • Verify storage space (22GB+)
